There are numerous causes of stretch marks that are dependent on individual skin type or texture.

There are two layers of the skin.

These include the below:

  1. The Epidermis: this is found in the upper layer of the skin which is regarded as the thin layer.
  2. The Dermis: This is found in the lower layer of the skin which is usually the thicker layer.

You must know that these elastin fibers can be stretched only to a certain extent and if stretched beyond their limits, they will get torn.

When a woman gets pregnant, her skin begins to stretch out due to the increase in the size of the uterus.

Well, it depends on the extent to which the elastin fibers are torn, some scars are left on the woman’s which are commonly known as stretch marks or Striae Gravidarum.

Most women who are athletic and go through physical labor have a little trace of stretch marks or none at all. This is possible because their abdominal muscles are strong and well developed due to their daily exercises and flexible body.

As an impact of this, the weight of the maturing uterus can be held up by these muscles and stops it from pushing toward the exterior part of the skin.

As a result, the skin tends to stretch less, and a smaller amount of elastin fibers are destroyed which makes the stretch marks noticed on the pregnant woman few.

However, having healthful and well-moisturized skin tends to stretch more without any lengthy damage.
